Orion’s Engineering & Consulting team played a crucial role in providing comprehensive marine structures engineering design and coordination services for the development of Dock 4 and the approach way of Dock 2, strategically positioned along the Houston Ship Channel in Galena Park, Texas. The project encompassed the construction of a new Dock 4 on the south side of the trestle, involving dredging activities to achieve elevation -40.0ft. This new construction featured a meticulously designed pile-supported concrete dock with an elevated steel platform, emphasizing robustness and durability.

The engineering design was intricately crafted to accommodate breasting and mooring requirements for vessels up to a 750ft LG 64,000 DWT design. The dock's functionality was further enhanced with provisions for two 16”ø loading arms, designed to accommodate future 12”ø additions, and a robust 20T deck-mounted pedestal crane, contributing to its versatility and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the project entailed the strategic demolition of the eastern end of the Targa Dock, incorporating the removal of dock 2A and the existing approach. Designated breasting and mooring dolphins were systematically dismantled. A noteworthy aspect of the endeavor was the reconstruction of a segment at the end of the existing approach, transformed into a pile-supported concrete deck parking area. This revitalized space catered to the needs of both the existing Dock 2 and the newly established Dock 4, reflecting a meticulous approach to optimizing the utility and functionality of the maritime infrastructure. The entirety of these endeavors underscored our commitment to delivering innovative and effective solutions in the dynamic realm of marine structures engineering.
